As we open up to brotherhood we do not continue to seek a separate, individual, goal. It is not possible. As we realise our oneness, our wholeness, we cannot remain alone. We realise it, it becomes real to us. Realisation is not of the mind, it is not thinking about it. Realisation becomes the truth within us. It becomes our reality, our experience of life. We realise our unity, all beings are part of one, when we realise it in our hearts. There is no more that need be said or done. We feel the pain of humanity yet we know the pain is illusion. We feel compassion for all our brothers and sisters and we long to remove that pain.
We continue towards our goal. Open in the heart, creative in our mind and vibrant in our body. We remain guided in all our actions and we do not strive or seek. We remain whole in mind, body and spirit and do what is asked of us for the furtherance of mankind.
Once we find ourselves, God will seek us out. Once we discover who we really are, our true nature, God will find purpose for us. We do not need to seek out our purpose, it will find us.
Once we realise our true nature everything changes, because our whole perception of reality changes. From that moment we no longer need to seek, we only need to surrender. Once we surrender, everything is given to us. Life provides the lessons and purpose that we need, and that life needs of us.
Our purpose in life is to find ourselves, to discover who we are. We do not seek to discover God, but to discover ourselves, our true identity. As individuals we start the search, separate from others, following a different path. As individuals we seek to know ourselves fully, beyond the crowd, the persona, the ego, beyond the mores of society, beyond belief. We go beyond to discover who we really are. We do not look outside, to others, or outside to God, but look inside to our fundamental nature and to the essence of being within us.
Once we have found it, we know who we are and comprehend our relationship with God. All the seeking and searching is over, yet there is still more to be revealed and more to do. Now perception changes, from singularity to unity, from love to compassion. Now we no longer need to seek for our self, but our self is not complete because we know the suffering of others.
It is not a choice to help others, it is a natural conclusion of being. Our purpose is joined with God’s. God will seek to use us to achieve unity, we cannot deny it, it is our desire and our oneness. Our purpose in life is to find ourselves. Once we have found ourselves then we will also discover God’s purpose for us.
God has need of us. We might struggle to see our purpose in the world, and fail to see what we should do, but, in one way or another, God needs us. God needs us to grow and recognise who we are and express that into the world. It doesn’t matter what we do as long as we express who we really are in doing it.
Walk down a busy street, look at the people. Really look at them. Look at how they walk, look at how they stand, look at their faces and look into their eyes. They are suffering, and suffering is so much part of their lives that they don’t even realise it. The world needs us. It needs us to stop suffering by recognising the truth of who we are. The world needs us to demonstrate the truth, by being that truth in the world.
We have been called to demonstrate our truth. We are all here because we have shown determination to find truth. We find truth and express it through whatever activity we do. Nobody may thank us. Nobody may even recognise what we do, yet just by being who we are we will change the world. The more we express truth, the more we recognise it. The more we grow, the more truth will shine. Through our growth people around us will grow, often without them even being aware of it. Miracles start to happen, it is as if we become synchronised with the world.
We all have a unique purpose in this world, God has need of us to fulfil this purpose. It is something that only we can achieve. Even when we understand who we are we may not know what that purpose is. We can search for the purpose and never find it, but if we are open and surrender, the purpose will come to us. The purpose will unfold before us. The direction will come in the form of inspiration. It will excite us. Our part is to surrender and to fulfil. Surrender the need to know and fulfil the inspiration that we have, no matter how difficult that might seem. The task we are given we can fulfil, we are given the tools we need. Its fulfilment supports the world’s growth, probably in a way we will never understand.
Teaching and learning
We are always teaching. Teaching is not about standing up in front of people and passing on information. Teaching is being our true self. All the time we interact with other people we are teaching them what we are and what we believe. We cannot stop teaching. The question of teaching therefore is not whether we should teach but what should we teach. Are we going to teach the world our holiness or our humanity. Are we going to express God into the world or our ego.
If we choose to express God into the world then that has to become what we are. It has to become our nature. It is not our nature now, and for it to become our nature we must desire it. By desiring it, above all else we will gradually change until we become it.
The world reflects back to us what we extend into it. Therefore what we teach we are able to learn from. The world reflects back to us, and if what we see we do not like it is because there are aspects of ourselves that do not reflect what we want to be. With awareness we can use this reflection of ourselves as a learning tool. To see what we still need to give to Spirit to change.
What we say, do and think is an expression of who we are, either our human being or our spiritual being. We cannot stop those things being an expression of us, it is like trying to stop a flower blossoming or a star shining at night. We can try to control what we say, do and think, yet they will still be an expression of us. Changing what we say, do and think does not change what we are and therefore does not change them as an expression of us. We do not become more holy by changing our thoughts, words and actions. We become more holy only by being more holy.
There is no point in giving ourselves a hard time about thoughts, deeds and words, if we don’t like them then it means we don’t like ourselves as we are at the present time. The only thing to do is not to observe our words, thoughts and actions with the intent to change them but to change ourselves.
How can we change ourselves, if our true self is already perfect. We cannot change our true self and it will take a life time to change our human self. We cannot become more spiritual by changing our human self. We can only become more spiritual by being our spiritual self more often. Personal development tools are fine, they help us recognise that we need to change, but they ultimately have limitations. Those people who seek spiritual truth have to learn to be themselves.
To deepen and embed Spiritual truth within us, we need to teach it. It is the only real way to learn it. We can teach it in many ways, through teaching itself, through work, through healing. We consciously need to move from being a learner to being a teacher, in order to deeply learn. Our teaching is not what we teach, it is what we are. We need the interaction with the world to reflect back to us our teaching, so that we might learn.
The world also has need of us, and for some of us, our purpose is to teach, that is to extend the truth into the world. This is the same but different. It is the same because our teaching is what we are. It is different because we are also allowing space for Spirit to enter, to teach truth. This is a blessing, because whenever Spirit enters, we also learn. Everybody will teach and learn, but for some their purpose is also teach truth, by giving Spirit the opportunity.
The Law of Dharma
from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra
There are three components to the law of dharma. The first component says that each of us is here to discover our true self, to find out on our own that our true self is spiritual, that essentially we are spiritual beings that have taken manifestation in physical form. We’re not human beings that have occasional spiritual experiences – it’s the other way around: we’re spiritual beings that have occasional human experiences.
Each of us is here to discover our highest self or our spiritual self. That is the first fulfilment of the law of Dharma. We must find out for ourself that inside us is a god or goddess in embryo that wants to be born so that we can express our divinity.
The second component of the law of Dharma is to express our unique talents. The law of Dharma say that every human being has a unique talent. You have a talent that is unique in its expression, so unique that there’s no one else alive on this planet that has that talent, or that expression of that talent. This means that there’s one thing you can do, and one way of doing it, that is better than anyone else on this entire planet. When you’re doing that one thing, you lose track of time. When you’re expressing that one unique talent that you possess the expression of that talent takes you into timeless awareness.
The third component of the law of dharma is service to humanity – to serve your fellow human beings and to ask yourself the questions, “How can I help? How can I help all those that I come into contact with?” When you combine the ability to express your unique talent with service to humanity then you make full use of the law of Dharma. And coupled with the experience of your own spirituality, the field of pure potentiality, there is no way you will not have access to unlimited abundance, because that is the real way abundance is achieved.
Exercise – Life’s purpose
What is our life’s purpose? It comes down to what intensively excites you. We do not choose yet we do desire. We must be prepared to give up everything, even those things we think are important to us, yet get in the way of achieving our purpose
Our focus shifts from self realisation to realisation for all, yet we continue to grow. So what do we do with our life. We do what intensively excites us. Our life is to be who we are, to experience our holiness and to experience all aspects of life, through our holiness. That is we try to experience yet see the truth behind. But what do we do? We do what intensively excites us.
What do you passionately want to do. What is your intensive interest. What gets you excited. Life will present you with whatever opportunities you need. What you do is up to you. You have to live in the world but what you do is up to you. What is your inspiration? What is your desire?
What is your art? What gives you joy? What excites you ? You can do anything you want and be successful as long as you express your truth.
Spend some time in stillness and peace. Consider the question, “What intensively excites me?”
Be patient, write down the answer. Allow yourself to range through all the things that you have done in your life. Consider your interests as a child and a teenager, think of all those things you used to do and do no longer. Which still excite you? Which strongly excite you?
Try to avoid, general things like, bringing world peace, healing the sick, doing good for others. These things are given, but through what activity, which you intensively enjoy, will you bring your light into the world. It doesn’t have to be something new, it could be what you already do, or a variation on what you do.
Note also those things that do not bring you excitement. What is it about them that you don’t enjoy? What does this tell you about what you want to do?
Once you get some idea about it, then consider what to do about it. If you have everything you need, then what is stopping you from doing it? Are you prepared to give up what is stopping you from achieving it? Focus on it and be clear.
It is possible for us to keep searching for some secret, some technique, some solution which will unlock for us the secret gate to our self realisation. Yet as always with this course less is more. We already have everything we need for self realisation and probably we already have too much.
The only answer is to stop searching, stop looking for something new and look at what we already have and look at what we already are.
Spiritual seeking can become a game, an end in itself, another technique for healing, another Chi Kung exercise, another book to reveal the truth. We already have everything we need, the secret is to stop searching and start being.
How many ways do we need to heal ourselves and others? How many ways do we need to be told the truth? How many ways do we need to take us to the experience of God? All we need to do is to focus on the goal and use our tools when we find we can’t. Everything is inside us, there is no point is looking elsewhere, it is inside us. Nobody else can do it for us, there is nothing we need from anybody else.
All the support we need, we already have. All our brothers and sisters are beside us. Spirit walks with us and shows us the way. Surrender to Spirit, trust in their guidance and have gratitude for all that we have been given. Walk in the path of God and everything we need, will be there for us.
